This one time, in the Knox Sentinnel...
I am not nearly as addicted to the Knox News Sentinnel as I was the Roanoke Times – perhaps because it is not as well-written, liberal, or illustrative of the positive community capacity it serves. So I rarely start sentences anymore with: “I read in the newspaper….” - which I stated as frequently as the meme “This one time at band camp….” that became a hit after American Pie. Oh, I digress. From time to time there are features in KNS about something other than UT sports, cats with peanut butter jars stuck on their heads (I’m not kidding), and what to expect as far as HIGHLIGHTS for the evening’s TV programming (if there can be such a thing on network TV). Last week I enjoyed the articles regarding TVA’s valleywide environmental stewardship work, which were well-researched with various perspectives. This morning I read something in KSN that may have appeared in a Roanoke Times, as it discussed a progressive idea for downtown revitalization. It reminded me of the efforts to cultivate a sense of community and simultaneously grow a small economic hotspot – like many articles I have read about Roanoke and Blacksburg. There are a few like-minded business men in Market Square, Downtown Knoxville, and they have a twist to the old downtown revitalization paradigm – make it Christian-based. Maybe you’ve read something similar before, I dunno; this is the first time I’ve seen it. I quess if it could work anywhere, it would be in the buckle of the Bible belt, Tennessee.
