On Sunday, I grabbed my climbing harness, attached it to my backpack (because it looks cool there), and the puplers and I took the climber's "trail" down to Sandstonia in the New River Gorge; where, finally, after three years, Kerry and I actually stood and played in West Virginia. Conspicuously absent was Maria, and we weren't climbing off a pontoon on Summersville or climbing at Seneca Rocks like we've talked about all these years but unexpectedly, there we were, experiencing the glory of West-by-God - with our sidekick, Diego, and their friend Jason who made sly comments about my climbing abilities (or lack thereof) all day. I didn't do much to prove him wrong but I wasn't there to be a show-off; I wouldn't want to embarrass him, ya know? I was there to just BE and loaf around on the rocks with my puplers and my friends, and to eat Diego's homemade leftovers of deliciousness.

Buksi "Banjo on his Knee" Pupler prepared for his first ascent, but became sidetracked by the sight of Potato Fritata de Espana and then spent the afternoon laying in the dirt staring intently at it instead.

K-train is a good climbing coach but he came around too late to supply the necessary pointers to get me up the Wall. As a result, I sat at the base having more fun checking out crotches and buttocks (to check harness safety, duh).

Lovin & Fitness - kinda sums up a beautious day in West-by-GOD!
Missed being there, too! Thanks for the note ;) Love you.
ReplyDeleteI hear there is good climbing in Africa, wait a second and I'll come over.....
ReplyDeletelooks pretty flat here to me....
ReplyDeletethough all I've seen in South Africa is the hotel here near the airport. I bet there is good climbing.

I like how Kerry and Maria use Aurora's blog to communicate.
ReplyDeleteI like how our favorite chemistry professor that shall remain unnamed uses a very big Newfoundland as his alter-ego ;)
