Seeds from Tomatohead

My personal how-to-gardeners are my Mom and friend, Evan "tomatohead" Snow. Via cellphone and snail-mail I've been blessed by their gardening expertise. Words of gardening wisdom relayed from my Mom: plant oregano or basil near tomatoes to enhance their flavor, and line the tomato garden with marigolds to prevent pests; plant potatoes under a full moon; and try to live at least once in your life, for one summer, self-sufficiently. I will experiment with the latter later this summer once my garden bears fruit and I miraculously hook and land bass from the lake - with a fly-rod.
Since the beginning of Spring here in Tennessee, each passing day brought forth with it increasing warmth of the sunshine. Meanwhile, leftover seeds from last year's garden and the FFA still laid in the rubbermaid labelled gardening. My hope for starting seeds six weeks ago clearly unfolded. Then piles of new seed packs arrived from Seeds of Change Organic Farm in New Mexico where Evan Materhead Snow is now interning. Instantly, I had renewed motivation and in went seeds of change into the soil. I began by sowing the seeds directly in the raised beds and stainless steel tubs (with Momo's supervision).
I planted 60 tomato plants - 4 varieties. My two flavorites: Fox Cherry and Yellow Pear!! Come July, I'll be laying in the grass with the puplers picking and popping those 'maters until I have a sick belly. Come August, if I manage to harvest enough 'maters to cart into the house, I'll create the South Main Classic (from the Kitchen of Kimberly Hodgson). Roasted cherry tomatoes in a fresh basil, garlic, and balsamic reduction - over grilled chicken - its the bomb!!! I'll have my own herb garden again this year - and this year I've expanded it to include summer savory, flat parsley, and cilantro.
The rain came today and I know the garden is happy. Buksi Banjo is happy too, making sure to keep the skunks from raiding my soon-to-be garden of deliciousness and my sole means of acquiring breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the snacks in between. Life is a garden, dig it!!!
