Hokie Cat
Two years ago ESPN College Game Day was in the Burg for one of the big ACC matchups. The lil Burg was in some sort of a tailspin with the Game Day media buzzing around, and the ESPn crew was searching for any noteworthy story that showcased rural gameday traditions. That is when "Bessie", the calf on South Gate Drive, became celebrated for predicting the winner and score of VT games. Bessie did this by either licking her right hoof over and over (VT wins) or her left hoof over and over (opponent wins). Philipp and I wanted to test this skill with Luther, the Hokie Cat. We placed two plates of like tomler food at equidistance from one another and Luther. If Luther chose the the right plate, then VT would win; if Luther chose the left plate, the opponent would win. I remember Philipp and I redoing the experiment with Luther until he got the "correct" plate. Best 2 out of 3, Luther predicted VT would win and sure enough they did. Later in the season, Luther immediately predicted that VT would trounce Miami and so did Bessie. That prediction couldn't have been farther from the truth. One of Luther's favorite gameday activities was sitting on the South Main Street sidewalk cheering and rah-rahing as cars streamed back and forth to the Lane Stadium. He was such a renowned Hokie Cat that he was gifted with a VT cheerleading costume from Marcus Vick!!!
