Devil's Slickrock Marbleyard

Today I had a lovely day with Diego. I professor-napped Diego from Hahn Hall (the Chemistry Building) mid-day because it was just too nice of a day to allow him to coop himself up in his minimalist office reproducing the "qualitative features of carbon nanotube fracture under axial tension" and calculating quantum something-or-others. Diego willingly obliged as he is one of those academic-types capable of maintaining balance among professional responsibilities and personal aspirations. So he and I bolted out of Blacksburg and hit the Belfast Trail around 2:30 pm, just 5 minutes shy of a thunder and lightning storm that descended on us and the appropriately named Thunder Ridge. We were quickly soaked by the cold, hard rain but continued the shakedown hike 1.5 miles to the Devil's Marbleyard. The Devil's Marbleyard is a massive field of fractured quartz boulders piled in a steep ravine on the western slope of the Blue Ridge. The lichen-covered boulders are only a tad slippery when wet since the lichen provides a textured surface that grips like those rubber fish/flowers with suction found under your feet in the shower of a cheap hotel. We were totally exposed to the lightning, as well as soaking wet and cold to the bone. Despite rain over head, we still had views of the misty and autumnal rigdes to the south. Resting on a car-sized boulder in the rain, with a friend who also appreciates the thrill of unexpected adventures and the cleansing power of mountains and rain showers, is a truly unique experience. Pictures forthcoming.

I also had a delightful evening with friends at one of my favorite local watering holes, the Cellar. Tonight the Cellar felt like the Cheers Pub (from the 80's sitcom), the place where everybody knew my name. My friends and I were the wacky cast of characters (Ted Danson, Shelly Long, etc). I even danced with the Woody Harrelson of the Cellar, Chris - a farm boy turned oceanic engineer (rather than bartender).

What a day!

  1. Hi Aurora:

There is only one God, the Man Jesus Christ.

Jesus said in The Gospel of John 16:6
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

To find God, you must go through Jesus Christ, who died a crucified death for your sins, and rose from the dead on the Third Day,and now sits at the right hand of the Father. We serve a risen Saviour, who defeated death.

You must admit you are a sinner, repent of your sins, and Jesus will forgive you. He came to save sinners. John 3:16

The Book of Romans written by the great Jewish Apostle Paul of Jesus Christ in the Holy Scriptures, the Torah or Bible reads in
3:10 "At it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."
3:23 "For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God."
5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

May God bless you with His Salvation.
